. . . we smashed his version of Fields of Gold last night.

Fellow Troubadours, Minstrels, Crooners, Hummers and Warblers

Those of you who watched Sting perform in Radio 2 in the Park in Preston last weekend will realise how we smashed his version of Fields of Gold last night. We spent a long time getting it right but it sounded pretty good in the end. There have been a lot of cover versions of the song and in my (completely unbiassed!!) opinion we rank number 1😂, followed closely by Eva Cassidy and Katie Melua. Sting and Cliff Richard’s version come way down the rankings!!!! Try listening to them and see if you agree.

We went on to revive Wild Mountain Thyme and the intellectual discussion and debate 🤔 of the night, which was of course led by our leading horticulturist, Gez, centred about whether the thyme should be pulled or picked or a combination of both - in the end the pickers won - so from now on we’ll be picking wild mountain thyme!!! Anyway the song sounded pdg 👍🏼 in the end.

All that good stuff took an hour and 55 minutes - so the boss (aka epicentre) says what can we sing in the last 5 minutes lads? As you can imagine there was a massive clammer for Peat Bog Soldiers (😂) but in the end good sense prevailed and we resurrected the beautiful John Martyn song ‘May You Never’ - and to say we hadn’t sung it for six months the doo doos sounded absolutely brilliant.

Then off to the pub for more chatter and a couple of beers 🍻.
